1979. Six volunteers create two evenings of concerts to expose the very lively local rock scene: these are the first Rencontres Trans Musicales of Rennes.
From its second edition, the program opens to trainings from other regions while debates bring together music professionals. Foreign artists are added to the poster in 1982. The festival will then continue to accompany all musical movements to come. Born in the midst of post-punk and industrial rock, he will be at the forefront to embrace the revolutions of electronic music and hip-hop that will shake the 80s. The DJ and the rave find their place immediately.
From edition to edition, the festival will look closely at the arrival of grunge, alternative rock, brit-pop, trip-hop, French rap or electro-rock, welcoming Etienne Daho (1980), Black Desire (1986), Mano Negra (1988), Lenny Kravitz (1989), Nirvana (1991), Ben Harper (1993), Bjork (1993), Portishead (1994), Daft Punk (1995), Amadou & Mariam ( 1998), LCD Soundsystem (2002), Justice (2006), Rodriguez (2009), Stromae (2010), Jungle (2013, Jeanne Added (2014), Pack (2016), Fishbach (2016), Superorganism (2017), Underground System (2018), some for their first French concert ever.
